SummaryLast week, Muay Thai and MMA veteran, Rambaa Somdet, signed a long-term agreement to compete in Pacific X-treme Combat events. Somdet is expected to fight in PXC's Flyweight Division (125 pounds) and will make his PXC debut on July in Guam, USA.
Pacific X-treme Combat, one of the premier MMA organizations in Asia-Pacific, continues to expand its roster of fighters with the signing of veteran, Rambaa Somdet, one of the most renowned Muay Thai and MMA fighters hailing from Thailand.
Rambaa Somdet is a great Muay Thai specialist with a 10-2 professional MMA record. Somdet has been promoted as one of the top Flyweights in the world of MMA and a major prospect for The UFC, although, actually, he is a natural Strawweight (115 pounds). Somdet has proven he can beat men bigger than him, which could draw him a cult following in PXC. He is expected to make his debut at PXC-38, scheduled for July in Guam, USA.
Somdet is a former Shooto Champion who has fought for K-1, Shooto, DEEP and Palace Fighting Championships. Hist 2 losses came early in his MMA career in 2002, with one of the losses at the hands of current UFC standout, Darren Uyenoyama. One of Somdet's key victories came against current UFC Flyweight Ulysses Gomez in 2008.
Rambaa Somdet has not lost since returning to mixed martial arts in 2007. He defeated Noboru Tahara in a rematch to become the first Shooto Flyweight Champion (Shooto's Flyweight division is fought at 114 lbs.) on November 23, 2009 in Tokyo. On April 16, 2011, Shooto announced Somdet was vacating his title due to a partially torn left biceps.
PXC continues to gain fans globally, and has a reputation of producing some of the best MMA fighters in the Asia-Pacific region. According to PXC Promoter & CEO, E.J. Calvo, "We are happy to welcome Rambaa to PXC. Our Flyweight Division is full of young talent, and a veteran like Rambaa will raise the bar of competition to the highest in the region at that weight class." PXC's Flyweight Belt is currently held by Ale Cali, a lightning quick striker from the Philippines. Cali is slated to defend his belt against Hawaiian grappler, Louis Smolka. Other PXC Flyweights including Alvin Cacdac, Eugene Toquero, Jerome Wanawan, Josh Alvarez and Ernesto Montilla jockey for position in the rankings as new prospects enter the race by signing with PXC in the near future.
